What does TAU INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS do?

TAU Industrial Robotics is a very interesting startup on its way to becoming the producer of cables for all the electric motors within 5 years.

Currently, a late phase start-up that is doing Research & Development to change manufacturing industries at once with their invented futuristic equipment.

Their 4 products:
1. Dry Cycle is a unique 70% more efficient technology to cover wires and cables without a solvent.

2. LILIT is the fastest contactless measuring machine that analyzes if the coating of wire is in exact thickness and chemical composition without stopping production.

3. ThermoLab is a small laboratory in a transportable box that can automatically test how electronics or materials behave and survive in different temperatures.

They contribute to the environment saving project named Urban Mining, which makes it reasonably efficient to recycle precious metals from old electronic equipment.

1000 Idea Challenge:

To train my idea muscle and get better at improving businesses I created the 1000 idea challenge for myself. The side benefit is that I get to help others which is one of my core values.

For 100 weeks every Sunday, I will look deep into one business and come up with 10 actionable ideas, that I would love to know or test as that business owner or team member.

My Thoughts and Experience This Week:

I rediscovered for myself, how important it is to have great sales skills.

You may have the greatest product in the world and you may put 10m USD in Research & Development, but at the end of the day, if you don’t know how to sell, its a waste of your time, your money and the world.

On the other hand, there are people who are extremely great at selling but are filling the world with bad or harmful products. I wish the first and second type of people would find each other and bring the world forward.

Another realization was the importance of speaking clearly, being a good storyteller and making great videos.

Too Complicated Messages telling Nothing:

Coming to the website the visitor gets greeted with hard to understand slogans, that really doesn’t inform anything.

The question on a visitors mind is “How does this website help me?”

Currently, the slogan “Do more with less” with the subtext “Adding Intelligence to Manufacturing” is too vague.

The following slides are a little more specific, but the language is still too vague.

Actionable Solution:

Clarify and Simplify Messages:

A. Brainstorm with your team, what’s the visitor’s problem and how you are solving it.

Here’s my first idea to help you get started:
Futuristic Equipment for Wire Manufacturing
 to Outperform Competition & Save Resources
(What?) (For Whom?) (How it Helps them?)

B. Hire a great marketer with an outsider perspective to improve your message for your clients.

C. Find an existing structure to make better experience for your visitors.

1. Use a good framework to come up with a great clear message.

I loved using the StoryBrand framework to simplify my message.

The downside for me was that I spent 2-3 weeks trying to perfect the message in my head and still did not get to a truly satisfying result.

As an insider, it’s hard to see the big picture and what really matters for customer.

So I ended up hiring a great specialist and I was really happy that I did.

I could have done it sooner though and not spend 3 weeks struggling in my head.

It’s nice to see that you have seen Simon Sinek’s Ted Talk and decided to use it on your website.

However, nowadays, reading a dry text is boring, doesn’t get any attention nor creates much connection.

I guess the most important goal of the “Why? How? What?” was to touch people’s hearts and really help them connect with what you do.

Actionable Solution:

Create a touching “Why? How? What?” Video:

Create a 60-second video to help your clients and investors see a real face, build trust and connect with you for real.

Who is the site for? Investors or Clients?

If I had to guess, I think the site is created for both, yet doesn’t help neither of them.

Maybe, it is more directed towards investors, yet the language is too technical and one must be an engineer to figure out the benefits, so one drifts off the site.

Or maybe it is for engineers, but the Call-To-Action (CTA) is to contact you. (Stereotypically, it’s the last thing an engineer wants to do).

Or maybe it is for purchase managers, but there is no “Get a Quote” button.

Actionable Solution:

Talk to your audience:

1. Choose one audience group.
2. Think, what they really need.
3. Help them with the right Info and CTA Buttons.

As an investor, I am more likely to invest in a company that has created an awesome sales page for their clients.

If I like how they operate, I would scroll to the footer and search “For Investors” link.

We live in a time where people’s attention span is getting shorter and shorter. Hardly anyone wants to read texts (especially complicated ones).

Having no videos on the website makes me seriously doubt whether I am looking at a technologically advanced late stage StartUp which is ready to innovate industries or is it just someone’s weekend project.

In an age of marketing and social media, video is the king. Anyone can shoot and edit a professional video on an iPhone. There really aren’t any valid excuses for an advanced startup to destroy their chances to succeed, by communicating through videos.

Which seller would you prefer?

Actionable Solution:

Just add the Benefit parts to it:

Sales network in 3 continents.
First, ask if this is limiting or expanding your business? Maybe you would be better of mixing this accomplishment with the next one.
If not, ask, why is this accomplishment beneficial for the visitor and tell it.

Often, the texts on your website and brochures get very technical. This is ok, but they should have easy to understand summaries or explanations before the technical part.

Avoid long sentences with complicated hard to follow structures.

If the text is hard to follow, it gets disengaging and this makes the visitors to give up and leave the site.

Actionable Solution:

Make it easy for the visitor to understand:

1. Add easy to understand intros.
2. Write in short clear sentences.
3. Add benefits for the reader.
4. Hire a great copywriter.

It feels outdated to download a brochure.

Maybe you have a good reason for giving the information mostly through the 4-page brochures.

It feels an unnecessary extra effort to download a brochure to my downloads list and then delete it afterward.

If a futuristic startup’s website feels like from 2004, then the association transfers to the image of your products.

No matter how innovative your inventions are, the first impression leaves the visitor a feeling of old-school equipment.

Actionable Solution:

Create websites to introduce products.

1. Create clear websites introducing the revolutionary benefits of your great inventions.

2. Add videos to show them in action and to assure, they are a real thing.

3. After you have figured out your messages from all previous 7 ideas, hire a website creator to present your messages on a modern website.

Or at least mention the number of employees

Having only three faces made me feel like
“Ok, are they really only some kind of dealers for another company or what is going on?”

Be transparent = believable:

The team is one of your biggest assets and there is no point to hide the truth. Seeming like a 100 people company, but delivering for a 10 person team is not an advantage.

According to your strategy, add to the about page:
A. All Team Members and their Faces or
B. Heads of Departments and mention the size of their teams.

It lets visitors connect better both with you and your products.
